My Account Got Deleted by the Facebook Police!

Welcome to Facebook they say when you get to their website, more like welcome to jail. I have been building a Facebook account for a good year now, actively engaging in discussions, networking with individuals local to me, joining groups that pertain to my interests and Facebook has decided to shut my account down. I thought this was extremely strange since it is a “networking” website and it is a little difficult to network if you are not allowed to request people you don’t know. Facebook asks you to only requests people that you know. Yeah ok most people couldn’t even name off twenty people they know but they are supposed to only link to people they know on a website that unlocks them to thousands of people with just a few clicks away. Barack Obama’s Facebook account currently at this very moment 1,450,617 friends, wow he has a lot of real life friends because you can only connect with people you know in real life. I don’t’ see his account getting shut off.

Facebook has fallen and bumped their head if they think they can control this. I think they have commissioned the secret service to monitor everyone’s behavior because I read the other day that someone had gotten kicked off because they used the search function too many times in one day!! The search feature?? What’s next getting your profile booted for thinking about sending someone a friend request? How is using the search feature too many times in one day bothering anybody? I have spent an entire year networking on Facebook with many other young adults promoting their website and this is how they repay you. When you try to log into your account they say they can’t tell you specifically what you did wrong for “security reasons”. What security? Am I going to hire a lawyer because my Facebook account got shut off, probably not. You have to send 17 emails to Facebook in the hopes of prying a reason out of someone. Why they hiding it?

I don’t think Facebook is going anywhere but they are quickly infuriating many people with these new rules and regulations and I don’t think Facebook wants to face another class action lawsuit. Maybe they are doing it to get a buzz going? If you send a friend request to someone they have the option to deny it. Easy and simple, click no thank you, go about your day and the problem is solved. Did it ever occur to Facebook that for every ten people that might actually enjoy receiving that friend request that the one person that triggers an abuse flag might just be ruining a good thing for everyone else? I think the whole point that Facebook is missing here is that if you want to call it a social networking site but you are not allowed to meet people you don’t know than it is useless. The whole point of networking is so that you meet people you don’t already know! Isn’t the whole point of networking to meet other individuals whom you can communicate with and feed off each other’s knowledge and strengths?

I am not promoting spamming social networking websites but Facebook needs put in place some much more tasteful strategies for monitoring its members. Sending friend requests is not spam, accepting a friend and having them nonstop slander your wall with ads is and should not be tolerated. It is time for Facebook to rethink their ink or they might just be shopping around for a reputation management firm!

    I feel your pain buddy…

I was only adding 30 – 40 friends a day for only roughly a week & they banned my 2 year old account.

This happened about a month or so ago. I’m still pissed.

Man, that really sucks. The closed nature of these networks is precisely why I have never used them. But hopefully the market will provide a correction; sooner or later someone is going to do social networking better than Facebook.

& they don’t answer you back, but as soon as they see a hot girl says he add me & I am ssssssssso abused now, without anything they will deleted you, and not give you a whole of explanation.
And #2) I have a idea for a social website that will put facebook in a shoe of myspace. But the problem is, I only have the idea, I don’t know how to make a website. So If anyone wants to work with me. I am willing to put my ideas out!! :)

Facebook have been working in this high handed way for quite a while now, and have done similar with Facebook pages (which I have previously written about In my blog about ‘The True Face of Facebook Democracy’ http://wellbelove.wordpress.com/2008/05/16/the-face-of-facebook-democracy/

Try Hi5.com which is growing fast and does not seem to behave in the same Big Brother we can do what we like way. If enough people start to spend more time on other social networks then maybe they would revisit this polic, though I realise that a large number of people wont be bothered to try.

Maybe facebook does need another class action suit. they randomly delete accounts that are active and provide no reason for it. When you try to contact them they just ignore it.

    Hi frs,

Facebook killed me today ;) And also, I guess with the same reason… This is the most stupid thing a network would do… I have many many gr8 frs from other network like Orkut, who I never know before and even I not yet meet many of them but then it’s the network for…
Facebook even ask us not to post our business information on facebook, and so it’s a big crazy things as if it’s not about business, then why facebook build this network? If ppl just come to date/find cyber sex frs or for other pure personal purposes, then they would just come to yahoo chat room or st like that…

This is my email to Facebook, which I beleive they never reply:

    Dear Facebook,

I wake up in the morning and got my acc disabled without any inform of the violence or anything like that. If I got disabled because I post any information about my business on facebook so I think all facebook users would be banned/disabled also because they all put something about their business their or website or send messages about their business activities.

A network is a place for people share? Then they should be able to share whatever they want. In case they share something bad like nude or violence, then they get disabled. But business? Isn’t it why facebook build up this network???

I can always set up another email acc and set up another facebook acc but it would take a lot of time to find all the friends. The thing is I already have many things precious like photos and messages from friends that I would like to keep. And now I even can’t access my own account to get that.

Please kindly reply me and if facebook really apply your terms of use in a fair way, you should close up your network because all of the ppl must have posted something about their business.

    Regards,

    …

Here are the things that (supposedly) will get you kicked off Facebook – MANY of WHICH are the most STUPID thing I have ever read!!!

    1. You didn’t use your real name
Don’t try to use a nickname (or initials)in lieu of the name on your birth certificate, because Facebook will find you and spit you out.

    2. You joined too many groups
Remember that the maximum limit is 200 groups per user. More than that just looks desperate, don’t you think?

    3. You posted too many messages on a wall or in a group
Even Guy Kawasaki had his account disabled–in his case for “excessive evangelism.”

    4. You posted in too many groups, too many user’s walls
You may be axed for being too verbose in too many places. That’s what spammers do, silly. On Facebook it is better–or at least safer–to be seen than heard.

    5. You friended too many people
Not so long ago this was a prime cause of disabled accounts, but Facebook has instituted a maximum of 5000 friends that should protect you from yourself.

    6. Your school/organization affiliation is doubtful
The overlords are sometimes not very trusting, and they may accuse you of not graduating from Harvard (or Plum Senior High School). The impertinence! Better have your diploma ready.

    7. You’re poking too many people
We’ve heard this from multiple sources, and it’s easy enough to avoid. Save the pokes for people you *really* like, as mum always said. But beware the odd FB app that pokes on your behalf.

    8. For advertising your app on wall posts
The line between spam and self-promotion is a thin one, but let it be known that pimping your shiny new Facebook app is definitely considered SPAM.

    9. Using duplicate text in multiple messages
Some people paste a generic welcome message into friend requests to save time. DON’T DO THIS! It makes you look like a spammer. (Ironically, pro spammers are probably randomizing their messages to avoid this trap)

    10. You are a cow, dog, or library
Being a real person is not enough, you must be a homo sapien. Accounts have been deleted for cows, dogs and libraries.

    11. You are under eighteen years old
According to one report a user’s account was suspended when they suspected her of being under 18. She was required to enter a work email address to prove her maturity, at which point her account was reinstated. [note: other users have pointed out that being under 18 is fine if you're part of a High School group, though underage home schoolers have been told to bugger off]

    12. You wrote offensive content
Reports of “sudden death” on accounts have been reported by users who were told they had posted offensive content, but were not provided details of the offense.

    13. You scraped information off Facebook
They have a zero tolerance policy for page scraping (i.e. pulling content off their web pages via a script). Unfortunately, they don’t have a reliable way of proving it’s you who’s doing the scraping (IP matching is probably as good as they can get), so you may find this a difficult charge to defend yourself against.

I just got booted off also…for the same thing adding to many friends. I agree…if you do a lawsuit let me know. I have written them and no response either. It was social networking.

So the accounts they disable for any of those reasons, will they ever reinstate them??? And do they ever bother to tell you why you were deleted??? Thanks for the good info!
