Have You Researched Squidoo For Social Marketing?

If you haven’t visited Squidoo or researched them then your first observation may be that it is one large magazine, or catalog. One area that many smart people are using Squidoo for is social marketing.
Squidoo is a strange site. It’s a little bit Facebook, a little bit Myspace and perhaps a little bit Hub Pages. Anyone can create a page (called a lens) on Squidoo and it can be on any topic you like. What seems like thousands of lens’ have been created predominantly to promote affiliates and their products. With every page you create you can also openly promote your own web pages or web sites.
Of course, many would ask, “why create yet another page?”, and I would agree except for the fact their is also a social aspect to Squidoo. Pages can be assigned to groups and categories. Pages are ranked and you can even see the ‘top 100′. Like most social sites, people can ‘favor’ your pages or rank them using a star system. You gain the social benefits of many sites along with the commercial.
It is the commercial aspect that interests many people. You can include advertising including Adsense, affiliate banner advertising, or advertising for your own site.
What I have noticed is that some pages are created purely to promote a product of the creator – normally ebooks. The ebook gets a long editorial with links back to the website to complete any transaction. The other use for Squidoo that I have noticed is the creation of pages that act as hubs for the owners group of sites. On the one lens they will promote all of their sites – the lens being the hub.
Squidoo certainly provides social marketing benefits from a different angle. The largest benefit is that once you have completed your lens, you can just walk away and let it do its job. The more you can promote it the better of course, but some users claim to only need to set and forget – particularly affiliate based pages. Set them up, do some promotion, then let do their job. Perhaps Squidoo could fulfill some of your social marketing needs.

Thanks a lot for the Squidoo piece. I’ve heard and not used, but as a reader of your site I will now look into it as a viable option for promotion purposes. It does not hurt to set it up and forget it, especially after promotions, let it work for you.
I find these blog networks to be the same. I frequent blog networks once a month to post to specific areas, lay out some promotions, and then walk away. I’ve seen some decent traffic from this method, so I’m familiar.
Thanks for the post!
