Use Social Networking to Find A Job

With record unemployment numbers lurking now is the time to take advantage of the free online social marketing tools available to you to find a job. Sites like Facebook and Myspace are great for reaching out to decision makers in order to find a job.

Instead of visiting the job search sites purchase yourself a subscription to Hoovers and find out who the decision makers in your industry are. Sites like this will allow you to find out people’s names at companies that you want to work for. Try isolating 10 or 15 companies that you would want to work for in your area. Once you have done this trying to track down people’s names in the search engines requires a few clever searches. Once you track down someones name try search for that name online and see if you can find a profile they might have either on LinkedIn, Myspace or even Facebook and connect with them. If they are the right person you are looking for try starting conversation with these individuals. Some might think you are a weirdo and some will actually engage in conversation. This will give you an advantage over the possible hundred resumes they have already sitting on their desk.

At this point it doesn’t hurt to try some creative techniques to find employment. It will not get any easier to find employment and these social media marketing platforms are perfect for getting your foot through the door.

I have been laid off for months and I was told by a recruiter last week that my LinkedIn was not up to par (yes, she had checked it out before even calling me). I didn’t realize that it was that important to have updated. This is also a great article: http://vjournal.com/linkedin-tips
